Cantata Sings In the Holidays

In addition to performing our joint “Magnificent Magnificat” concert with the Grosse Pointe Symphony and organist Dave Wagner on December 4, we will also be singing in the season with a couple of special community appearances over the coming weeks.

Catch us on Fox 2 TV as some of our singers kick off the Volunteers of America Michigan Adopt-a-Family Holiday Program and the Fox 2 Holiday Connection on the morning of Saturday, November 27.  We’ve supported this generous and festive charity event for the past few years by providing musical background and carols for the live broadcast and public service announcements, and we’re thrilled to be back again this year.

Don’t miss our free Noel Night performance on Saturday, December 3 in Midtown Detroit!  We will be performing holiday selections in the Detroit Institute of Arts Great Hall at 6:45 pm.  This fantastic festival returns this year for its 39th season, and we are excited to continue the tradition.  It’s a great opportunity to see Midtown, with over 60 museums and institutions opening their doors to the public free of charge.

We hope these appearances get you into the holiday spirit, and that they will whet your musical palate for December 4!  Tickets for “Magnificent Magnificat” are available now — online, by e-mail, or by phone at (313) 242-7282.  Don’t miss it!

During 1987 or 1988 my wife and I attended several performances of The Cantata Academy under the direction of Fredrick Bellinger. They were magnificent. We purchased an audio cassette of their Christmas music titled “Hodie,” and played it at this season for many years. Alas, the tape broke and is unplayable. We miss it sorely. Do you know if there is any way we can obtain a recording of the performance that was on that tape? That would be the most wonderful Christmas present we could give each other.
Thank you for any lead you can give us. Hal Smith
